This course considers how and why works of visual art have played a vital role in movements for social change inside and outside of museums. Students will investigate historical and contemporary moments when art and art museums have been a focus/site for protest (e.g., Confederate Monuments) and as a tool for resistance (e.g., Black Lives Matter street mural in DC). Can be repeated. Credit hours: 4. Prerequisite: 2200-level art history course or permission of the instructor.
