This course examines the nature, extent, and causes of crime in American society through an examination of major criminological theories, from classical to modern perspectives. Various theories will be explored, such as deterrence, rational choice, biosocial, strain, social disorganization, and critical theories, while considering their larger impact on policy, research, and societal responses.
