This course examines the FBI “counterintelligence program” that was active from 1956 to 1971. The program used extensive surveillance to monitor, target, and discredit organizations including the KKK, the Black Panther Party, and individuals like Martin Luther King, Jr. All classified documents relating to COINTELPRO were leaked to the public in 1971.
